If you are planning to make a trip to Vail, Colorado and you are not planning to go during ski season, I would definitely suggest going during their “low” season which typically is at the end of Spring. When we went our hotel was at 22% percent occupancy and there was practically no one in Vail. It was the weirdest feeling being in a town with practically no one else but it was also pretty relaxing.
That being said because they were between seasons we got an absolutely stellar deal in a hotel room at a 4-star resort. Our room would have typically cost around $500 a night during the winter season because the resort has a lift that goes directly from the hotel. Hotel Talisa’s parking policy is strictly valet only for guests, which I actually found quite annoying due to the lack of access to my car but I can understand how some people may love it.
We weren’t expecting to run into awesome deals pretty much everywhere we went but that is actually what happened while walking the town of Vail. Every store had a sale, every restaurant had a sale running and things were priced at more reasonable rates because it was during the slow season. Pretty typically right? Just at our hotel, the bar was offering two for one drinks, two for one entree at the restaurant and they discounted our bottle of wine to $15 from $35. This was basically all because it was restaurant week during the time that we were in Vail which made me think the town would be slammed with tourists trying to snag some delicious food at a great price. Some of the restaurants were busy at night, such as Matsuhisa. They do not accept reservations so we had to wait around an hour to get a table. We ended up coming back around 8:30 pm after walking over to 10th Mountain Whisky to grab a drink. There was practically no one in the bar and we had it to ourselves other than a pretty rowdy group of doctors. It was actually pretty hilarious watching an entire group of doctors dancing around in an empty bar while they requested ridiculous songs from the guitarist hired for the evening. It was definitely one of those mountain night experiences that seem to only be found in the Rockies. After the bartender realized that my fiance was apart of the 10th mountain division, he comped our drinks and then we headed back to Matsuhisa where we were promptly seated at the bar. I tried the Gardener cocktail which is probably the tastiest and most unique drink I have ever had in my life. We decided to try the Omakase and finish with 3 oz. of A5 wagyu beef. When people say that it literally tastes like meat butter in your mouth, they are speaking the truth. It was the most decadent and rich piece of beef I have had in my entire life. Expensive yes, but worth the experience at least once in my opinion. Oh, and before I mention, that Omakase was half price during restaurant week. So those deals just keep coming in.
At our hotel, they were also offering a package that included a facial and a 50-minute full-body massage for only $99! Such a deal, I was interested in possibly getting a massage while in Vail but I sadly ran out of time while we were at the resort. All in all, I was always curious about Vail because I had never been to before. There seems to be a lot of hype about Vail and I was curious to see if it was worth it. I think that if you enjoy being pampered while in the mountains then Vail is definitely for you. I would for sure come back during restaurant week just because I enjoy having space to myself and not constantly being around huge crowds of people. It was also slightly unsettling with how few people were there if I am being completely honest. Not a bad thing, just something I had never experienced before while traveling. It definitely made our experience in Vail unique! I will link a couple of the places that we decided to go below if you are possibly interested in traveling to Vail this summer! They all receive my stamp of approval.
Happy summer traveling!
